For our latest webinar, Pieter and Antonio took on cross-border treasury recruitment.

Treasury is international by default, but moving across countries is anything but obvious. The session drew on situations we deal with every day, from language requirements and salary expectations to visa sponsorship and cultural fit. Rather than staying theoretical, Pieter and Antonio shared what they see firsthand in the German, Dutch, and wider European markets, along with plenty of examples from candidates and hiring managers.

💭 What switching a department to English actually opens up, both for widening the candidate pool and for the salary conversation on either side?

💭 How salary expectations, cost-of-living differences, and the “first step abroad” shape what a candidate should signal early in a process, and when to steer away from money altogether?

💭 Where visa sponsorship is easier or harder, and how the rules differ between countries like the Netherlands and Germany?

💭 How culture shapes recruitment, from power distance and directness to the energy a hiring manager wants to feel in a first meeting?

A key takeaway from the session was clear. The first move abroad is the hardest, and the practical work of preparing for it, comparing gross-to-net, checking labour law, learning the local language where it matters, is what separates a good move from a costly one.
