Short description

Our client is a big corporate at the forefront of the Dutch energy transition, and they are urgently looking for an Interim Financial Risk Manager. In this newly created role, you will help shape the risk framework around the clients evolving trading activities. This is a strategic, hands-on interim assignment (Utrecht-based, hybrid) through Q1 2025, with potential for a permanent appointment. Dutch(preferred) or English is required.

Tasks Interim Financial Risk Manager

As Interim Financial Risk Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting up and refining the second-line risk framework
  • Monitoring and analyzing commodity, liquidity, market, and credit risk
  • Supporting the shift from structured gas sales to active trading with proper governance and controls
  • Advising on hedging strategies, counterparty risk, and trading policies
  • Preparing risk reports (e.g. VaR, MtM, stress tests) and advising senior stakeholders
  • Collaborating with Treasury, Trading, Compliance, and the Sales Risk & Compliance Committee
  • Acting as sparring partner for the Head of Treasury and contributing to new energy business development

Ideal Interim Financial Risk Manager

You are an experienced financial risk professional with a solid background in commodity or energy trading. You are analytical, structured, and capable of building policies and frameworks in a developing environment. You are pragmatic, a strong communicator, and a reliable advisor in a setting where business and public goals intersect.

You bring:

  • At least 5–10 years of experience in financial risk or commodity/trading(prefered) risk management
  • Affinity with energy, utilities, commodities, or complex trading environments
  • Proven knowledge of risk models (VaR, MtM), hedging strategies, and regulatory frameworks (EMIR, REMIT, MiFID II)
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Fluency in English or Dutch(preferred)

Remuneration and Process

This is an interim role starting no later than September 1, with the potential for a permanent role thereafter. Rate and terms depending on experience. English is accepted for the interim phase;
